Homeowners who are considering a renovation project with the thought of resale should take into account that approximately 70 to 80 percent of the cost will be recouped with the home sale -- you cannot expect to have a dollar for dollar return. However, an updated home will pay off in that it will sell faster and for a better price.
Budget your renovation costs and put your money into updating your kitchen, bathrooms, repainting, removing old wallpaper and putting in new carpeting. Neutral colors are best.
What is the least expensive renovation you can do before putting your home up for sale? Rent a storage unit and declutter, declutter, declutter. Take stuff out of closets, the garage, cupboards and remove any extra furniture (tables, dressers, chairs).
